BEP Career Days

 

Career Days inform and inspire youth about career opportunities available to them in Waterloo Region, through interactive career exploration workshops led by industry professionals.

 

Since the inception of this program, 10,000 students and 1,000 volunteers have participated in Career Days geared towards a range of sectors. Last year, over 40 workshops were delivered to approximately 500 students in Waterloo Region, positively impacting students, educators and employers.

"ZOOM into the Workplace" Career Day

 

Zoom into the Workplace connects grade 11-12 students to employment supports and entry level work opportunities available after high school, through interactive career workshops delivered by local employers.  

 

This initiative, which has run in Waterloo Region for over 15 years, is organized in partnership with Conestoga College, the Waterloo Region DSB, the Waterloo Catholic DSB, Lutherwood, and Cambridge Career Connections.  

 

2019-2020 dates: 

  • April 28, 2020 - Conestoga College, Waterloo Campus (9AM - 1:30PM)
  • April 30, 2020 - Conestoga College, Doon Campus (9AM - 1:30PM)

Each "ZOOM into the Workplace" Career Day includes 13 workshops showcasing a range of industries to 200+ student participants.

 

How to Get Involved: 

  • Employers: You can apply here, no later than January 31, 2020, to deliver a 45 or 90-minute career exploration workshops to groups of 10-20 students.

Career Pathways for Newcomer Youth 

 

Career Pathways for Newcomer Youth is a new event series geared towards high school students who have limited prior schooling and developing English language skills.

 

In Spring 2020, we are pleased to showcase careers in healtcare to 150 of these students, through interactive events hosted by 4 long term care homes: 

 

  • March 24, 2020 @ University Gates
  • April 21, 2020 @ Parkwood Seniors Community
  • May 21, 2020 @ Hilltop Manor
  • May 26, 2020 @ A.R. Gaudie (peopleCare) 

This initiative is a partnership of the Waterloo Region DSB and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging.
